This is Comic Book Club News for February 21, 2024.

New Scarlet Witch Series Coming From Marvel:

The Scarlet Witch series by Steve Orlando was a critical hit for Marvel. Taking the witchy Avenger and throwing her into a case of the month format where the helpless visited her shop, aided by TV’s Darcy Lewis, was a win of a formula. Unfortunately, the series ended… But great news, it got picked back up as Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver, which kicked off this month, pairing Wanda with her brother Pietro.

Unfortunately, that series is ending in May… But great news, Steve Orlando is launching a brand new Scarlet Witch series in June, with a new number one, that will be a continuation of the same story he’s been telling in the previous two series.

Comics: they are easy to get into.

Said Orlando: “The news is out and I couldn’t be more excited! SCARLET WITCH has been a dream job, and getting to return to her once again and continue Wanda’s adventures is something I could never say no to. And Wanda’s going to keep climbing! Here, we’ll be bringing the blockbuster storytelling of SCARLET WITCH AND QUICKSILVER to the focused, personal journey Wanda began in DARKHOLD and SCARLET WITCH. And standing in her way? Only one of Marvel’s most powerful and climactic entities, bent on destroying everything Wanda stands for.”

The “new” series will have art by Jacopo Camagni, and covers by Russell Dauterman, who also did covers for Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch. It will hit stores on June 12, 2024.

Garth Ennis And Jacen Burrows Launch New Series, Babs, For Ahoy Comics:

Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows, the team best known for the extreme zombie book Crossed, are reuniting for a new series: Get Fury, from Marvel. And then later on this year Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows are reuniting for a new series: Babs, from Ahoy Comics. Honestly, it’s possible they’re not reuniting so much as “hanging out.”

Anyway, as announced over at IGN, Babs seems like a parody of Red Sonja, and other “sword and sorcery” style books, with a fair amount of current cultural commentary as well. Basically, Ahoy’s bread and butter: take a genre, let some top-name creators go wild, and satirize our world outside in the process.

Said Ennis: “Writing Babs was an absolute hoot. The character is one of my favorite types—good at the job but crap at life, with a lousy attitude to boot—and the world of Sword & Sorcery provides endless opportunities for deeply disrespectful humor. Having our heroine smash her way through goblins, ogres, imps, incels and other vermin was extremely satisfying; nobody’s going to be Making Middle Earth Great Again while she’s around.”

The first issue of Babs will hit stores on July 17, 2024. We’ll keep you posted if Ennis and Burrows plan to reunite any more times this year, for, say, dinner or something.

J.L. Westover To Tackle Feelings In New Book:

J.L. Westover, creator of the hit Mr. Lovenstein Presents: Failure, is launching a new book through Image Comics and Skybound. The book, titled, Mr. Lovenstein Presents: Feelings, will collect further webcomics by Westover.

Said Westover via press release: “This is a collection of my funniest comics with all the feels. My goal was to help people get in touch with their feelings. All of them: Joy, Sadness, Rage, Love, Anxiety, and Horny. I even invented new emotions like horngry. I can’t wait for the world to feel feelings like they’ve never felt feelings before.”

If you’re feeling it, you’ll want to pick up the new book when it hits stores on September 17, 2024.
