Today we’re taking a look through the highlights from DC Comics solicits for May 2024!

This is Comic Book Club News for February 19, 2024.

DC Comics May 2024 Solicit Highlights:

Things, as usual, for DC Comics’ May 2024 solicits, kick it off with Batman, Batman, Batman. But actually Batman-adjacent characters. Juni Ba, the idiosyncratic creator of Monkey Meat, among other titles, is taking on The Boy Wonder for a new title squarely focused on Damian Wayne trying to prove himself in Batman’s absence. Over in Nightwing #114, Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo begin the end of their lauded run on the title with an arc titled “Fallen Grayson” which I think is a joke on “Fallen Son: The Death Of Captain America” but probably not.

Meanwhile, over in Outsiders, May’s issue finds one of the cast dead, with character The Drummer holding a requisite black blob hiding the new corpse. However, with Batwoman absent from the cover and the rest of the cast assembled, it seems like it might be curtains for Kate Kane.

Over on the Superman books, the “House of Brainiac” storyline enters month two as Superman and Lobo team-up and fight in both Superman and Action Comics. The action also spills over into May’s issue of Power Girl, but seems relatively contained otherwise versus the first month. Also, we’ll finally get to meet a new villain that’s been teased for months: the Brainiac Queen. Excuse me, but her name is Miyam Bialik.

Tom King Dominates DC’s May Trade Collections

In the trades side of the solicits, the Young Wonder Woman stories that were running for a while in the back of that title, written by Jordie Bellaire, with art by Paulina Ganucheau, are all collected in a single volume titled Wonder Woman: The Adventures Of Young Diana. And the currently hard to find Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by artist Bilquis Evely, with writing by Tom King, is getting a new printing with a new cover, a new introduction, and an alternate script for issue #6 of the series.

In fact, it’s a banner month for new collected editions of Tom King works, with the aforementioned Supergirl, plus first collected volumes of Wonder Woman and The Penguin, an Absolute edition of Mister Miracle featuring creator commentary, and a new softcover printing of The Human Target Vol. 2.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. Forget fallen son, how about risen King? Sorry, that’s a different thing, never mind.
