The Flash #5 Review:

In this issue Wally West’s son Jai takes the spotlight as things get even weirder and wilder in the world of The Flash.

“This series is so unique,” began host Alex Zalben. “This is unlike any Flash book I’ve ever read. I’m really enjoying it. It is tense. It’s sporadically funny, in sort of like a nervous laughter sort of way. The villains are scary and weird.”

In particular, Zalben really enjoyed a scene where Grodd is confronting Wally West, and instead, Jai asks Grodd what he wants — something nobody has ever asked him before. So the massive, psychic gorilla explains his motivations. “That was so unique and interesting,” added Zalben.

Justin Tyler agreed, urging any Flash fans who have not been reading lately to return to the franchise. “This is a great one,” said Tyler. “Come back and see new creative ideas about what the Speed Force can do, what the Flash family is up to, exploring an area where Wally West, his usual bright persona, is being infected by exhaustion with the life as a speedster, which is really smart storytelling.”

Pete LePage called the art “unbelievable,” and loves the “creepy, cool covers.” As for the story, it “freaks me out.”
