It’s mid-December, and there’s reason to believe, maybe this week’s new comics will be better than the last. Though last week’s were pretty good, too.
Probably the biggest release of the week doesn’t come from Marvel or DC, it’s from Dark Horse Comics. Masterpiece #1 is a high-concept heist thriller that sounds like Ocean’s 11 meets Baby Geniuses, but, you know, not bad. The headline, though, is it’s reteaming Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, and with a lot of advance buzz this should be a good one.
Not to be outdone, Oni Press is officially kicking off their big push into monthly comics (which already sort of soft-launched) with Invasive #1, a body horror thriller that looks pretty gross. And speaking of horror, IDW is releasing Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees #2, which is one of the best horror books on the stands right now.
Moving to Marvel, you’ve got some gang war, you’ve got the death of Moon Knight in Moon Knight #30, and you have the very fun-sounding Spider-Gwen: Smash #1 which sends the character on tour with her band. DC, meanwhile, has like fifteen Batman books coming out, including second issues for Christian Ward and Rafael Grampá’s respective Black Label titles.
