In the latest issue of Skybound’s Void Rivals #6 by Robert Kirkman and artists Matheus Lopes and Lorenzo De Felici, our heroes (?) try to escape Zertonia.
We reviewed the book on the Stack podcast. But in the interest of highlighting more about the title, here’s a summary of the conversation with our thoughts. And if you prefer the longer audio version, that’s below as well!

Void Rivals #6 Review:
In Void Rivals, two beings from opposing sides of a war are forced to join together to survive. We get some big revelations about how their world really works in this issue, which host Alexa Zalben called “cool and fun… Classic Robert Kirkman twists.”
However, he had one issue with this, er, issue: where are the Transformers?
“The only thing that this isn’t frustrating me so much as maybe tainting the experience,” Zalben said, “is I keep waiting for big Transformers things every issue.”
Zalben owned the fact that expecting Transformers tie-ins every issue is more on him than the writing, given those teases have already been laid out in earlier issues of Void Rivals… Now, the series is telling its own story.
That said, he noted that he was confused when the ruler of one of the Void Rivals’ races called for an enforcer at the end of the issue, it was not, in fact, a Transformers Easter egg. Nor was the zoom-out on the alien planet the reveal of Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers.
“Stop forcing it man,” shot back Pete LePage. “Enjoy it for what it is.”
Zalben did reiterate that the “art is very good in this book,” and noted that a lot happens in this issue. “Robert Kirkman will occasionally release books where one thing happens in the issue. This is not one of those issues.”
However, his final thought? “Give me the Transformers!”
