The Bloody Dozen #1 advance review header

It’s time for another tale of the Shrouded College in The Bloody Dozen #1 from Image Comics, written by Charles Soule with art by Alberto Jiménez Alburquerque.

We reviewed the book on the Stack podcast. But in the interest of highlighting more about the title, here’s a summary of the conversation with our thoughts. And if you prefer the longer audio version, that’s below as well!

The Bloody Dozen #1 Review:

The Shrouded College is a series of interconnected miniseries, each with its own high concept. This series? Vampire jailbreak on the sun.

Host Alex Zalben thought the issue was “great” and liked it even better than the first series, Hell to Pay, calling the book a “high-octane action movie.”

Justin Tyler agreed, saying that though this is “in the same world… The pace is faster.” Tyler likened it to Rick Remender’s The Scumbag, at least in terms of the pace. “It’s much looser and lighter than I expected.” He also noted that he’s very curious to see how these six miniseries tie together in the eventual seventh miniseries.

“It escalated really quickly,” Pete LePage said on the issue. In particular, he loved the “bad*ss grandpa” character introduced here, calling the issue, “intense and awesome.”

The Bloody Dozen #1 hits comic book stores on December 13, 2023.
