The Return of Superman 30th Anniversary Special #1 Review:

Thirty years ago, we were introduced to four Supermen: Cyborg Superman, Superboy, Steel, and The Eradicator. Now, the original teams are back for new tales of the characters.

Host Pete LePage said the book made him miss the ’90s and appreciated “going back in time” for the nostalgic journey of the book.

Justin Tyler agreed, adding that the book “does take you right back there.” He also appreciated recalling a time before these sorts of resurrections and twists were the status quo. “Just a great story, and to get back into it with, the key thing here is with the original art teams, was a great way to take you back to that.”

Host Alex Zalben seemed a little less enthused with the book, calling out the framing device of Lois Lane dealing with a Cyborg Superman attack by reading Perry White’s journals from during the event. Of the stories, he enjoyed the Superboy one the best, saying, “that’s the one that was the most fun, and got most towards the character for me.” That said, he did “appreciate this as a tribute,” while “trying to do something new.”
