Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Review Header

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom Special #1 Review:

Written by Tim Seeley, Joey Esposito, and Ethan Sacks, with art by Miguel Mendonça, Ray-Anthony Height, and Scot Eaton, this one-shot tells three stories focusing on Aquaman, Black Manta, and Orm, aka Ocean Master.

Aqua-fan Pete Lepage kicked things off calling this “a great collection of stories… I appreciate the fact that they’re trying to build a bridge from the Aquaman movies into the comics… Art was fantastic.”

Alex Zalben copped to not being a fan of the first Aquaman movie but did note that if you are a fan, “this is a good thing to pick up… All three writer/artist teams did a very good job of channeling the characters in the first movie. The first story in particular from Tim Seeley, I could hear Jason Momoa’s dialogue in my head the entire time.”

He added that the main story didn’t feel so much like a DCEU story as, “What can we do in comics that we maybe can’t necessarily do on screen?” Zalben also thought the Black Manta story by Joey Esposito was “moody and intense.”

Said Justin Tyler, “Across the board, the art was really good, especially in the first one… The Miguel Mendonça really channeled the movie… We’re using actual reference in comic book form.”

“That was definitely Nicole Kidman,” Zalben added. “Amber Heard? Maybe not quite as much. But if you’re a fan of the movies, pick this one up.
