Oni Press is kicking off its year of new titles a little early. Specifically, ONI 2024 starts on December 6 with the release of Invasive #1, written by Cullen Bunn, with art by Jesús Hervás. And we’ve got a first look at the covers and interior pages from the issue, right here, right now.
The book focuses on a trauma surgeon whose plastic surgery-obsessed daughter disappears, leading to a deepening mystery involving a gruesome underground hospital. As you might expect from Bunn, the horror-master himself, this book doesn’t hold back with the blood and guts… And you can see that on clear display in the covers from Hervás, as well as variants by Luana Vecchio and Brian Level.
The bigger story here though is: what is Oni Press now? The publisher has been making some big hires, and big announcements about five, monthly titles rolling out starting with Invasive. When Comic Book Club talked to President and Publisher Hunter Gorinson at Baltimore Comic Con, he was talking about the big plans he has to bring Oni Press back to the top. This first book should — hopefully — be a clear indication of where the iconic publisher is going.
So will this operation prove successful, or will the patient die on the table? Only time will tell…
