Marvel’s ‘Cloak & Dagger’ Renewed For Season 2

How did Cloak and dagger get their powers?

With two episodes left in the first season of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, Freeform has pulled the trigger and officially renewed the show for Season 2. The move was announced at the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, to surely ecstatic fans. That means more Tandy (Olivia Holt), more Ty (Aubrey Joseph), and more of what is arguably the best new show on TV. Hooray!

The show hasn’t necessarily been a breakout ratings hit — the premiere hit almost a million viewers, but since then has hovering around half a million per episode. But Freeform has a pretty unique business model. They’re aiming more for next day streaming, repeat viewing, and social conversation. In that respect, the show has been successful, and built a devoted legion of fans online.

Heck, some folks are even recapping it with a Cloak & Dagger podcast every week! So weird!

Anyway, in case you were holding off jumping in for fear the show would be canceled, worry not! The pitch is simple: two kids are linked by the death of significant family members, while simultaneously gaining powers.

Tandy’s family is wrecked by the death of her father, who has ties to the mysterious and potentially evil Roxxon Corporation. She ends up gaining the power to create light daggers, and can see peoples’ hopes.

Ty’s family buries the heartache of his older brother getting shot by a cop down deep. He gets the power to teleport, and see peoples’ fears.

They separate for years, until fate brings them back together. Tandy wants to prove her father’s innocence in the destruction of a Roxxon drilling platform. Ty wants to do the same for his brother, by going after the crooked cop who killed him. Unfortunately, because of their powers they can’t touch… And as we recently learned, one of them is fated to die.

With Season 1 rapidly wrapping up the mysteries set up in the pilot, it’s anyone’s guess where the show will go next. There’s been a sneaky crossover going on between Luke Cage on Netflix, and Cloak & Dagger; and the characters are traditionally seen in New York in the comics. So could they head to the Big Apple, from the Big Easy? Maybe.

Until then, we can watch the rest of the season, and hope these two precious cinnamon rolls make it out alive. The second season will air in Spring of 2019.
