This is Comic Book Club News for April 19, 2024.

Marvel July 2024 Solicit Highlights:

The big news coming from Marvel in July, as we’ve talked about a whole bunch here on the podcast, is the relaunch of Marvel’s X-Men. This month’s titles include X-Men #1 by Jed MacKay with art by Ryan Stegman, as well as X-Force, NYX, and Phoenix. However, despite reports noting that the adjectiveless XMen book would be shipping more than one issue a month, at least for the launch there seems to be only the first issue hitting.

There’s plenty more from X-Men, too, including the already-announced What If…? Donald Duck was Wolverine?, a new issue of Deadpool, and more Wolverine including a Chris Claremont throwback series.

Another big title this month? Aliens vs. Avengers by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić, which gets your chocolate in my peanut butter by combining the Marvel heroes with 20th Century’s xenomorphs for a four-part series. Meanwhile, Blood Hunt continues to pit vampires, the original Xenomorphs, against heroes over the course of 21 different comics in July.

Jason Aaron, who has been all over the place lately, is kicking off an eight-issue miniseries starring Namor, with art by Paul Davidson and Alex Lins, and not Pete Davidson like how I originally read the solicit.

Speaking of big Marvel returns, Kaare Andrews is headed back to Spider-Man: Reign, his dark future world, with a sequel series that will introduce a new Black Cat — and reveal what happened to Miles Morales. Hopefully, it’s not the same thing that happened to Mary Jane in the first series!

Moving to some other highlights, Steve Orlando helms a five-issue series titled Annihilation 2099, which introduces a few space heroes to the future-set universe. Invincible Iron Man #20 looks to settle the status quo of Tony Stark and Emma Frost. And Sensational She-Hulk #10 settles the status quo of She-Hulk and Jack of Hearts.

And last but not least, the final issue of Aliens: What If…? wraps up the question of what happened to Paul Reiser’s character in the movie, and whether he also is Donald Duck.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And that’s too much relationship drama! I can’t handle it!
