It’s the last week of May, but it’s already time to kick off June’s Pride celebrations, if the new comics this week have anything to say about it.
To highlight those first, from Marvel we’ve got X-Men: The Wedding Special, which is an augmented version of the publisher’s yearly Voices special focusing on the wedding of Mystique and Destiny — as well as other LGBTQ+ characters in the Marvel Universe. DC Comic’s DC Pride is very hard to search for because of Washington, D.C.’s Pride celebrations, but the oversized issue is always chock full of great stories. And IDW is getting into the game with Star Trek: Celebrations, which focuses on the characters who boldly go where other characters have gone before.
Otherwise, over at Marvel while the Blood Hunt continues, Avengers: Twilight ends the “Cap Knight Returns” tale. Rise of the Powers of X also ends, teeing up X-Men #35, which wraps up Krakoa with a bow-a. And Hellverine brings back the mash-up of Wolverine and Ghost Rider.
DC Comics has three Batman issues including the excellent Dark Age. Four if you count The Penguin. And Green Arrow wraps up year one with a climactic showdown with Merlyn, the archer, not the sorcerer.
Over at BOOM! Studios, it’s time for the final issue of Once Upon a Time at the End of the World, which is almost guaranteed to make you cry and feel things. Dark Horse kicks off William of Newbury, a new book by Michael Avon Oeming that looks like Redwall meets In the Name of the Rose. And Image brings on Grommets, a book by Rick Remender and Brian Posehn about skate culture in the ’90s.
