Akogun: Brutalizer Of Gods #1 Advance Review:

In this new series from the team behind I Am Iron Man, we enter a brand new world of gods and monsters — and the brutalizer of the title, who is going to take them all down.

“This is about a bunch of mythologies jamming together, leading to the creation of the title character,” kicked off host Alex Zalben. “I thought this was phenomenal. I was really blown away by this. I thought the epic mythology that was going on here was really fascinating. The action was clear and precise throughout the book, in terms of the art; the creatures and gods were really interesting as well. And the place that it ends up in really got me very jazzed for the next issue. This is another big win for this team. And this is a title I’m really excited to watch going forward.”

Pete LePage agreed, adding, “love the art, love all the action. A little too much puking for my taste. But man, I can’t wait to read more.”

“This has big Luna Brothers energy,” said Justin Tyler, favorably comparing this to the lauded sci-fi/fantasy team. “It has that great mythological slash dream logic to a bunch of it. I’m curious. I like where we’re pivoted to in the next issue.”

Jumping off that, Zalben noted, “This very much feels like a prelude, an overture to what they’re doing with the book, which is exciting. I like that kind of confidence in terms of the structure… You don’t really get that a lot in comics. So great book.”

Akogun: Brutalizer Of Gods #1 hits stores on April 3 from Oni Press.
