Spectacular Spider-Men #1 Review:

In the first issue of this new title, Peter Parker and Miles Morales are teaming up to take down a hulked-out Jackal. Meanwhile, Peter just wants the guy at the coffee shop to remember his name.

“I’m here for the Ramos,” host Pete LePage said. “There’s no question about it, makes it all worth it. But this is a fun team-up. It was fun to see these guys interacting with each other. I mean, what’s not to like?”

Justin Tyler agreed, adding, “this has the fun comedic tone that… We’ve been missing from a lot of Spider-Man books like this… Greg Weisman really nails it in a way that I’m really enjoying. It feels fast. It feels funny. The action is great. A little bit of mystery. This is maybe my favorite Spider-Man book that’s come out in quite some time.”

While Alex Zalben liked the book, he did feel a lot was going on in this first issue. “The stuff with Peter and Miles is very fun… Peter trying to become a regular at the coffee shop. Very fun bit. But we have about four to six pages peppered in there as we meet all of these other characters, two very disparate things. We have no idea what the connection is or why they’re there. That’s something that of course is going to become apparent over the course of the arc. But in terms of reading a first issue, then having to wait a month… Maybe this will work better as a trade.”
