Batman #141 Review:

Batman is trapped by the Batman of Zur en Arrh, who is in the body of the robotic Failsafe, and wants to replace Bruce. Batman, though, isn’t too happy about that idea.

Without getting into spoilers, host Pete LePage thought the issue “had an amazing ending. I love where it puts Batman.” He also was a big fan of the design of Failsafe, and “I’m very excited to see where this goes.”

Justin Tyler was also a fan of the issue, and in particular that Zdarsky is “going so hard” on Batman in this run. That said, Tyler reiterated from previous reviews that he’d really like to see “a Batman where Bruce Wayne is having a fun time.” Though Tyler likes the book, he added that given Zdarsky’s comedy background, he could lean into a Batman: The Animated Series style take on the character, if Zdarsky wanted to. “I think we’re ready for that direction because every Bat book has gone so far in this harder darker direction.”

Bouncing off of that, Alex Zalben noted a sequence where Zur presents Batman with the choice to just be Bruce — and Batman refuses — as nuanced, and addressing the very point Tyler was making. And before wrapping up, Zalben shouted out the back-up story for having excellent Dustin Nguyen art, as Zur takes on other Zurs from throughout the multiverse. “A really cool issue,” said Zalben.
