Fall Of The House Of X #1 Review:

The Krakoa era comes to an end starting in this issue as Cyclops is put on trial, and the X-Men scramble to take the fight to Orchis. Meanwhile, Professor X continues to be a jerk.

Host Justin Tyler enjoyed the issue, and in particular that this was a “big rallying point… But instead, Professor X f**ks up their plan almost immediately.” He also enjoyed that this is a “scrappier X-Men situation,” as well as Cyclops taking center stage and “dropping some philosophy here.” He also called out a page where Colossus and Wolverine come up with a variation of the fastball special called the “screwball special,” where Colossus throws a man at Wolverine, who slices him to ribbons as “quite dark.”

“This feels like they’ve been pushing the ball up the hill the entire time, Sisyphus style,” said host Alex Zalben, “and they’ve finally gotten to that mountain peak and it’s starting to roll down [the other side].”

He also loved multiple elements of the issue, including how Tyler had mentioned that the team is not ready, Professor X screwing things up, yet again, and Kitty Pryde having fun for the first time in months. Additionally, Zalben shouted out the references to the classic Trial of Magneto storyline, and a fun sequence where Cyclops asks about Jean Grey possibly showing up. “It’s a great line, very funny for such a dire situation,” Zalben added.

Zalben also speculated that there was a possibility that Cyclops will die in this comic, given the paired series Rise of the Powers of X picks up 10 years after the X-Men have lost. “I think there’s going to be some sort of soft reset,” Zalben threw out there, which means you can make moves like killing Cyclops, without the death taking permanently.
