Get ready to enjoy all five episodes of Marvel‘s Echo a day earlier than expected. As revealed in a new trailer for the Disney+ show, Echo’s premiere date will be January 9, not January 10. Not only that: the trailer also pumps up the show’s TV-MA rating with some bloody action… And a Daredevil (Charlie Cox) cameo.
In the new, one-minute look, we get to see a riff on the now classic “one take” action scenes that were the signature of Netflix’s Daredevil series, as Echo (Alaqua Cox) fights her way through a bevy of baddies. Not only is Echo there, but we also get plenty of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, who is now sans one eyeball after the events of Hawkeye. And, as mentioned a mere paragraph earlier, Marvel isn’t being cagey about Daredevil going toe-to-toe with Echo, either… The Man Without Fear shows up sparring with her about two-thirds of the way through the trailer.
It’s also pretty clear that the real push here is that this isn’t kid stuff like those other Marvel TV shows… This is a blood-filled, intense five-episode drop that harkens back to the storied days of Marvel on Netflix. Which is kind of funny in retrospect, since despite those shows having legions of fans, at the time they were always seen as second-stringers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Echo technically spins off from Hawkeye, which introduced the character, as well as reintroduced Kingpin into the MCU. In the series, Maya Lopez, aka Echo, travels back home and gets entangled with the local criminals as she reconnects with her roots. Marvel Studios has added a “Marvel Spotlight” banner to the show, which is supposed to indicate that you don’t need to have watched anything previously to hop right in. I’d argue that spinning off of Hawkeye, and including both Kingpin and Daredevil contradicts that. But what do I know?
When Will Echo Premiere On Disney+ And Hulu? Premiere Date And Time:
All five episodes of Echo will premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu on Tuesday, January 9 at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT. If you have Disney+, you’ll need to change your settings to allow for TV-MA content, so get on that when you can.
