The Invincible Iron Man #13 Review:
In the issue, Tony Stark and Emma Frost head off the Earth to try and find Mysterium, a metal that will – hopefully – help them beat Orchis. And along the way, sparks fly…
“I love this pairing,” host Alex Zalben said. “I love how down Iron Man is in this series… Him and Emma Frost, they’re so on their back legs.”
“This is the romance of our time,” added Justin Tyler. “And they’re not fully romantic. They’re married and there’s a lot of flirting happening, but I love this.”
Tyler further expounded that he understands this is going to be a limited arc, but wants it to be an ongoing storyline where Tony and Emma fight, and dance, and get “turned on by intellect.”
That said, there was a little confusion about how Emma Frost is drawn in this issue. From Zalben’s end, he wondered why she still needed to wear a disguise when they were off-planet, given Orchis was nowhere around. And for Tyler, he wondered the opposite, why she was clearly wearing her White Queen outfit along with the wig and glasses. “Do one or the other,” Tyler said.
Despite the “weird art direction choice,” Zalben was still “so into this relationship. The entire issue… I’m legitimately sitting there thinking in my head: ‘kiss! kiss!'”
“This is hot,” Tyler continued, before turning to the “wild” button at the end where Forge encounters Riri Williams in space. Zalben loved the reminder of Forge’s powers, that he can create things but he’s not an inventor. Added Tyler, “He has the opposite power Iron Man has… These guys, they’re polar opposites.”
