Alice Never After #5 Review:

Alice is in a fugue state, imagining herself in Wonderland as the new Queen of Hearts. Meanwhile, in the real world, Alice is pregnant. Will she wake up? Or will things get even worse?

“This ended up much less dark than I expected it would,” host Alex Zalben said, “which I was surprised about.”

Justin Tyler continued that he “enjoyed this series… It’s well drawn, very Fables… Like a darker Fables that doesn’t make as many plot moves, and sits in some different emotional focuses.” Tyler also agreed that it didn’t head towards the dark ending the team had predicted with the last few issues, so much as have a “quick ending to a story that I did enjoy.”

Pete LePage agreed that he was surprised the story ended so relatively quickly and definitively. “I wanted to sit in it a little bit more,” LePage said. However he still liked the moments with Alice at the end of the book where she owned her own power. And overall, he loved the art calling it “really magical… I was just so blown away. Gorgeous.”

Wrapping up, Zalben expressed hope there would be a third book to finish up the trilogy as, “I wanted more of a revelation here. But as is, really well worth picking up.”
