Emma’s Nude Boob Celebration On ‘Gen V’ Season 2 Proves She’s The Show MVP

One of the most talked-about moments in Gen V Season 1 was when Emma (Lizze Broadway), aka Little Cricket, shrank down and got intimate with her hook-up partner’s now relatively gigantic anatomy. Well, we’re only a few episodes into Season 2, but we’ve already got another wild scene with Emma — only this time, Emma’s nude boob dance in Episode 2 is less raunchy than laugh-out-loud funny, and goofily endearing. Basically, it’s just another reminder that Emma, and by extension Broadway, is the show’s MVP.

Spoilers past this point, but in the episode, “Justice Never Forgets,” Emma and Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas) are headed to the Godolkin University library in order to try and find info about the mysterious Odessa Project. Unfortunately, first they need to get past the librarian, The Rememberer (Stephen Guarino), a former TV star whose power is to remember everything. Polarity is trying to take lead but is interrupted by the extremely high Emma, who gushes to The Rememberer about loving his TV show. Naturally, that’s what convinces him to let them into the private collection, and they spend the next few hours combing the archives.

They’re hitting a wall in their investigation until they almost quite literally hit a wall. Specifically, Emma figures out there’s a secret room in the archive, which turns out to be full of Nazi and KKK memorabilia, as well as the file for Odessa. She reads it and figures out exactly what it is — we later discover it is Marie Moreau, played by Jaz Sinclair. But back to the library, and Emma… While her powers were based on bingeing and purging in Season 1, now they’re confidence-based. When Emma isn’t confident, she becomes tiny. When she is confident, she becomes large, but thus far hasn’t been able to do that thanks to her generally low self esteem. That is until, having figured out the central mystery of the first two episodes, she becomes elated, and then rips out of her clothes, filling the whole room.

Enter The Rememberer, who hears the noise only to discover an enormous, entirely naked Emma, holding her breasts to cover herself, lying on the floor, with an uncomfortable Polarity standing by.

Polarity, a master of subterfuge, stammers, “Sorry, uh, she does that.” The Rememberer takes him at his word, and uncomfortable himself, leaves. Once he’s gone, Emma whispers, “Sorry, I know this is really bad, but it’s also really great. I got big… By myself!”

…And that’s when she does her little boob dance, making laser gun “pew pew” noises while she does:

This moment is the perfect mix of everything fans enjoy about Gen V and The Boys. When the shows work — and they work shockingly often — it’s somehow able to embrace both raunch and satire at the same time, or multiple other tones. Here, we’ve got that adults-only visual, thanks to the topless Lizze Broadway holding her boobs and making them dance. But you’ve also got the wild idea of superheroics… She’s enormous and fills the entire room.

There’s also the emotional level, because as viewers we’re rooting for Emma to figure out her powers, and get out of her funk… We’re elated, along with her, that she was, indeed, able to get big all by herself (though your mileage may vary if the drugs helped with that particular aspect).

Not to keep diving into this, but that’s the point of this article: it’s also extremely funny. Taking one’s breasts and using them to make “pew pew” sounds like a laser gun is an incongruous audio/visual that is raunchy but also extremely pure and innocent. It’s a delightfully childlike response that is in direct contrast with the fact that Emma is naked, and humor is powered by contrast. And lastly, there’s Thomas’s perfect reaction here. Seeing him super tiny next to her is funny enough, but the perfectly edited scene doesn’t linger too long on the nude Lizze Broadway, instead cutting over to Sean Patrick Thomas’s disappointed and resigned nod of “what did I get myself into?”

And to get back to what I said earlier about Lizze Broadway and Emma, this is why she’s the show’s MVP: she’s able to encapsulate all of this in a single, four-second-long shot. Nothing against the other actors, but while the rest of the cast often gets some heavily dramatic material to work with, Broadway is thrown all of it at the same time: drama, comedy, special effects, and nudity, all in one scene. That’s a lot to deal with, but Broadway makes it feel natural and fun, and best of all, hilarious and adorable. Pew pew.
