Nate Powell Announces New Graphic Novel:
Nate Powell, the artist behind the award-winning March, the excellent Fall Through, and recently a pretty great issue of The Twilight Zone, has announced his next graphic novel: Diana.
Per ICv2, Powell announced the book on BlueSky, with the creator teasing that “DIANA is both a self-contained character-centered story & prequel to FALL THROUGH, weaving them together with COME AGAIN to make an interconnected triptych.”
As for the plot, Abrams Books describes it as “an LGBTQ+ graphic novel” about a “singer who is ripped through time.” Set at least initially in 1992 in the Arkansas punk scene, the book blends the occult and music in the story of a runaway who is looking for a way to reverse the past.
Diana will hit stores on October 6 from Abrams.
Ultimate Endgame Hit With Delays:
You’re going to have to wait a little longer for the end of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. While this week saw the finale of Ultimate X-Men, and Ultimate Black Panther is already done, both the final issues of The Ultimates and Ultimate Endgame have been delayed.
Per Bleeding Cool, after a splashy announce of the end of the Ultimate Universe for this April, The Ultimates #24 will now come out on May 20, followed by Ultimate Endgame #5 on June 3. At the current time, Ultimate Wolverine #16 seems to still be on track for April 15, while Ultimate Spider-Man #24, originally scheduled for December 31, is now set for a planned release next week on February 18.
While that’s all fine and good, there’s likely to be a cascade effect with other titles, as well. The one-shot Ultimate Universe Finale, as of this recording, is still scheduled for April 29, but will more than likely slip to after that June 3 date (or simultaneous with the Endgame #5 release). And a five issue miniseries titled Reborn: Ultimate Impact was supposed to start coming out on May 20, leading into the upcoming Armageddon event. It’s possible the latter could stay on track, as it seems to deal more with the repercussions from the concluded Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion miniseries, but we shall see.
We’ve reached out to Marvel for comment, but did not hear back as of recording time.
Marvel To Rerelease 1977 Calendar:
We’ve been regularly getting some neat facsimile editions of classic comic books, but here’s one of the weirdest reprints, maybe ever: Abrams and Marvel will reprint their 1977 Marvel Memory Calendar. In 2027.
Per 13th Dimension, the 12-month calendar features art by Jack Kirby, John Romita Sr., Gil Kane, John Buscema, Gene Colan, and others. It also features trivia questions and “other Marvel fodder” written by Roy Thomas, and depicts iconic Marvel moments like the Fantastic Four battling the Skrulls.
But, and here’s the trick: this isn’t a straight facsimile. Instead, the dates do indeed match 2027, and while the content on the grid is the same as it was 50 years ago, “Official major world holidays and observances for 2027 listed at the bottom of each month.” And the days have been shifted to match the dates.
Want to celebrate 1977 in 2027? You can pick the Memory Calendar up on July 7, 2026.
