Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Makeover Is Getting A Comic Book Prequel

Probably slightly lost in the shuffle of the big Star Wars news yesterday (January 15) — that would be LucasFilm boss Kathleen Kennedy stepping down, with Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan stepping up — is the news that Disneyland’s Star Was land is getting a makeover. And before that? The theme park is getting a Marvel comic book prequel.

In case you’re not familiar, up until now, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. But starting on April 29, they’re blowing the whole thing wide open, and arguably doing what they should have done to begin with, by including characters and scenarios from every part of Star Wars. That means you’ll get to see characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker alongside The Mandalorian and Grogu. That also means new merchandise, and food and drink items… And in order to explain how this is all happening, because “Star Wars Land” is too complicated to explain in three words (it is not), get ready for a five-issue limited series.

It’ll be written by Ethan Sacks, who wrote the original Galaxy’s Edge tie-in comic back in 2019, and drawn by Jethro Morales and Roi Mercado.

“We’re returning to Batuu and we’re bringing the biggest stars in the Star Wars galaxy with us,” Sacks said via press release. “A major new era is dawning at Galaxy’s Edge and consider ECHOES OF THE EMPIRE a Holocron that reveals the secret story behind that experience. It’s going to be epic and Jedi (drawing) Masters Roi Mercado and Jethro are making sure every page looks amazing.”

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Echoes of the Empire #1 hits stores on April 22, with covers by Phil Noto, Leinil Francis Yu, and E.M. Gist. Check out those covers and the synopsis below.
