Second ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailer Officially Hits Online, As (Sigh) Third One Leaks

Chris Hemsworth Thor The Dark World

Like the sands of an hourglass, so are our Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers. First, the one minute look at Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers in the MCU movie leaked online a week and change before it hit theaters in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Then the same thing happened with one focusing on Thor (Chris Hemsworth), which debuted in front of week two of James Cameron’s Na’vi threequel. And you’re not going to believe this: next week’s teaser trailer has also leaked, just as the Thor trailer is officially posted online.

Let’s talk about the official release, first. Unlike the no-dialogue Rogers teaser, which found him cradling a new baby, the second teaser has a full-on monologue from the loquacious Thor. In it, he’s seen sitting on the bed next to Love (India Hemsworth), the daughter he adopted at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder. He’s going into battle, though, and praying to his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins).

“Father, all my life, I have answered every call, to honor, duty, to war,” Thor says as he wanders through the woods, eventually finding a small stone with a glyph on it. “But now, fate has given me something I never sought: A child. A life untouched by the storm. Lend me the strength of the All-Fathers, so that I may fight once more, defeat one more enemy, and return home to her, not as a warrior, but as warmth. To teach her not battle, but stillness, the kind I never knew. Please, father. Heed my words.”

That’s followed by “Thor will return in Avengers: Doomsday,” and a countdown timer that inexplicably hasn’t moved forward a week but is still teasing one year from the teaser’s debut. Perhaps Avengers: Doomsday will blink in the war for IMAX screens between the Disney movie and Warner Bros. Discovery’s Dune: Part Three (they’re both supposedly releasing the same day, though lol, one of them is going to move).

Anyway, that’s Thor. So, what’s attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash later this week? Spoilers past this point but… It’s the X-Men. Which is a bit of a surprise, as I thought for sure the goal here was to tease individual character spotlights on the return of the original Avengers characters, but I guess not. Instead, in the leaked trailer we get a series of ominous scenes that don’t seem immediately clear at first. There’s a broken house which you soon realize is the X-Men’s Westchester mansion, thanks to a plaque lying in the rubble. The camera then slowly zooms through the empty halls, before it focuses on a chessboard with one of the pieces floating in the air.

From there, we see two figures: Professor X (Patrick Stewart), and a bearded, long-haired Magneto (Ian McKellan) looking very much like Gandalf. Magneto clasps Xavier’s hand and the two smile at each other, exhausted. Perhaps of note, Xavier is in his classic wheelchair with the “X” from the X-Men movies, not the big yellow X-Men: The Animated Series one he sported in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While this is happening, we hear a short monologue from Magneto: “Death comes for us all, that’s all I know for sure. The question isn’t are you prepared to die, the question is who would you be when you close your eyes?”

The “eyes” it turns out, is a setup, as we cut to Cyclops (James Marsden) on a battlefield, a Sentinel in the background. He silently screams and blasts his eyebeams into the air. And perhaps most thrilling for fans, he is wearing his classic blue and yellow costume, for the first time in the live-action movies (other than a brief scene at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse). Then “The X-Men will return in Avengers: Doomsday” and that counter that is frustrating all of us, and not just me.

By the way, if you’re wondering which X-Men this is? Well, we don’t know exactly, but it is likely — for simplification’s sake — the X-Men from the Fox movies. Meaning everything from X-Men in 2000 through X-Men: Dark Phoenix in 2019. This is also likely the same X-Men version of Earth that Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) ended up on at the end of The Marvels, which also includes Beast (Kelsey Grammar) and Binary (Lashana Lynch). We know for sure that Alan Cumming will return as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn is back as Mystique, and Channing Tatum will reprise his role as Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine. Speaking of which, are Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) on that Earth as well? TBA.

We’ve got one more teaser that’s coming attached to Avatar on January 9, 2026, though it should be leaking online any day now. Will it focus on Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom? Or will Marvel save that for the main teaser trailer that will likely release later on in 2026? Stay tuned.

You can watch the Thor teaser below. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026. Probably.
