Okay, Ani, are you ready for this one? Yesterday (October 11) at New York Comic Con, Marvel announced — and this is not a joke — Star Wars: Jar Jar Binks #1, a one-shot all about the franchise’s favorite punching bag.
The issue will hit stores in February, and feature stories by Marc Guggenheim and more, with art by Kieran McKeown and Laura Braga, as well as covers by Taurin Calrke and Dave Wachter.
But the best part of this surprise book? There’s a story titled “Jar Jar Binks Returns,” co-written by Jar Jar himself, Ahmed Best. And honestly? You love to see it. This has been well reported, but given all the hate Jar Jar received, Best took a lot of the brunt of the attacks and dealt with some extremely tough emotional issues. Thankfully, time has healed at least some of those wounds, and the Star Wars fandom — and LucasFilm — has embraced Best as being a good guy who was stuck with an extremely weird character.
Also, for what it’s worth I’ll say that the Clarke cover (below) is tailor made for a T-shirt.
