As previously reported and now confirmed by Image Comics, Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans’ hit RPG-inspired series Die will return with a sequel story titled Die: Loaded. Missed opportunity to title it Die: Harder, but what are you going to do?
“DIE was created by us to talk about fantasy and reality, for as long as we have stories to tell. Suffice to say, we do, and DIE: Loaded exactly how much else we have to share, to delight, move and horrify you,” said Gillen via press release. “Plus it’s also important for DIE that we give other people a chance to tell their stories. It’s why we wrote the RPG, and with the Quickstart, we want to let even more people in on the party.”
In the new series, things pick up after the end of Die #20 (you get it) with the players of the game reunited for Chuck’s wake. They’re finally back in the real world, instead of the fantasy world of their deadly RPG game — but it seems like the game isn’t quite done with them yet.
Added Hans, “As an artist, it is such a unique to come back and expand a universe in which we poured so much love. Die is an ever extending work of art and I have the privilege to shape it alongside Kieron.”
Alongside the new series, Image will release The Die RPG Quickstart Game Guide, which will get you right into the non-killer game in the real world. The set includes everything you need to play except dice and friends. Good luck on the latter, you nerds.
As for any further hints about what one might expect from Die: Loaded? When we asked at New York Comic Con whether the sequel was Tron: Legacy to the original’s Tron, Gillen simply said, “No.”
Die: Loaded #1 hits stores on November 12 with covers by Hans and Peach Momoko. Check Hans’ cover, the RPG quick start guide cover, and some promo art below.
