Frank Miller, Daniel Warren Johnson, and Russell Dauterman may not be walking into a bar together. But they are all providing variant covers for the upcoming Deadpool/Batman #1, which were just revealed at the Retailer Panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
Releasing in stores on September 17, the issue will feature a main match-up between the title characters, alongside multiple back-up stories. And in Russell Dauterman’s variant homaging George Pérez’s Infinity Gauntlet #1, you can see many of these stories, including a previously unannounced one: Green Lantern and Rocket Raccoon, written by Al Ewing and drawn by Dike Ruan.
“The pairing of Rocket Raccoon and Green Lantern felt very random when I was assigned it, but you can chart a line between any two characters that’ll take you through a kaleidoscope of connections between one universe and the other – and that’s what we’ve done,” said Ewing via press release.
But that’s not the only tease… Miller’s cover isn’t just a homage to, er, himself. He’ll also be writing and drawing a back-up story featuring the version of Wolverine from Old Man Logan pitted against the Batman he created in The Dark Knight Returns. Wild!
Meanwhile, Daniel Warren Johnson is just having fun seeing what would happen if two Jack Kirby creations, Thing and Big Barda, punched each other in the face.
