Marvel Comics has just announced a brand-new trade paperback format: Marvel Premier Collection, a selection of stories meant to serve as new entry points for readers interested in where to start after MCU movies and shows, video games, and more.
“We’ve all heard the age-old questions: ‘Where do I start? What is that one run you just cannot miss? What should I read before or after the next big movie or television show to have the best experience?’ The Marvel Premier Collection program is our answer to each of those questions,” said Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Comics and Franchise via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Comics are at the heart of everything we do at Marvel, so this collection will be our go-to publishing line for any and all fans looking for a way into—or further into—the Marvel Universe. These titles will not be the only place to start of course, but they will be one of the best.”
The collections will kick off with Daredevil: Born Again, clearly setting up the new Disney+ show of the same name. And to drive home that point, the new paperback will feature a new forward by Frank Miller and an afterword by Charlie Cox.
The new format may immediately bring to mind DC’s Compact Comics, which have been a huge hit. However, these are slightly larger — 9 inches by 6 inches, to Compac Comics’s 8.5 inches by 5.5 inches — and they’re also more expensive — $14.99, instead of $9.99. Point being, they’re going for a different market with these things. As Buckley plugs, once you’ve watched Daredevil: Born Again? Read the book. Like the new Fantastic Four movie?
