We knew the Witches’ Road would be deadly on Agatha All Along. But it’s still a punch in the gut to see one of these characters kick the bucket… Starting with Sharon Davis, aka Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp) in the season’s third episode. Possibly making this an “every other episode” thing, another character died in this week’s fifth episode. Spoilers past this point, but yep, Agatha All Along has killed off Alice Wu-Gulliver, played by Ali Ahn.
Here’s how it all went down, particularly because Alice kicked the bucket in a pretty sudden and shocking manner. In “Darkest Hour, Wake Thy Power,” the coven is fleeing the Salem Seven on the Witches’ Road when they enter their third trial. This time it’s Agatha Harkness’s (Kathryn Hahn) turn in the hot seat, thanks to an ’80s-style sleepover horror movie straight out of the Evil Dead series.
The task before them? Play with a Ouija board, and channel spirits. While Agatha has some fun with it at first, doing an excellent impression of Mrs. Hart, aka Sharon Davis (Debra Jo Rupp), things quickly turn serious when the coven is told that death is with them, and they need to “Punish” “Agatha.”
Knowing that Agatha killed her coven back in the day, something we’re helpfully reminded happened during a flashback sequence in WandaVision, in this week’s “Previously On,” the coven is pretty much on board with punishing Agatha. Led by Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), they’re ready to tie her up and leave her behind when Agatha gets possessed by a ghost, screams at Teen (Joe Locke), and chokes Jennifer.
That’s about when the ghost is revealed… It’s Agatha’s mother Evanora Harkness (Kate Forbes), who tells the coven that Agatha should have been killed right out of the womb. According to her, she was born evil, and taking her on the Witches’ Road to get more power is tantamount to being evil themselves. They need to leave her behind and continue to walk the Road themselves.

Teen protests, Jennifer pushes back, and Agatha begs to not be left behind. Evanora takes this opportunity to possess Agatha once again… At which point Alice steps in. Shouting, “Leave her alone,” shockingly Alice exhibits classic MCU witch powers, something she’s never done on the show before, and blasts Agatha with orange witch magic.
It’s probably important to point out that Agatha is a siphon. Basically, if someone blasts her with power she sucks that, and their life essence, something we saw happen with Evanora’s coven in the “Previously On” segment. And that’s unfortunately what happens here… Alice blasts Agatha. Agatha sucks up her energy, and either can’t stop or won’t stop (depending on whether you believe Agatha has any good in her or not). And at the end, Teen is left sobbing over the lifeless husk that was Alice.
The other witches tell Teen they can’t save her, she’s dead and gone. And this leads to Teen confronting Agatha back on the Witches’ Road… Which itself leads to the reveal that Teen is, in fact, the son of the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). But that doesn’t help poor Alice, who is dead and gone at this point, the second body to pile up on the Witches’ Road.

That said, the episode also ends with Teen taking over the minds of Jennifer and Lilia Calderu (Patti Lupone) to get them to toss Agatha in the mud on the side of the Witches’ Road. And then he blasts Jennifer and Lilia in the mud, themselves. So unless Teen is gonna chill by himself with Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) for the next four episodes, it’s likely we’ll get some of them back.
Will those “some of them” include Alice? And maybe Sharon Davis? My pet theory is that Agatha is going to trade her power to save her coven by the end of this. But we’ve still got a few weeks to go until the pre-Halloween two-episode finale. We’ll find out then whether this was all a trick when it comes to Alice’s death… Or if we’re in for a treat.
