Halfway through May already? How time flies when you’re having fun reading new comics this week! So let’s talk about some highlights.
The big one from Marvel is definitely Doom #1, an out-of-left-field one-shot written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Sandford Greene. Versus what you’d usually expect from Hickman, this isn’t setting up a big event or is part of a 45-part story. He just wanted to work with Greene on a story about Doom at the end of his life, battling Galactus. Awesome.
As for DC Comics, the House of Brainiac event continues in Action Comics and spills over into Green Lantern. Meanwhile, Suicide Squad: Dream Team continues the countdown to Absolute Power. Plus Outsiders looks weird and wild as usual.
BOOM! Studios has a crazy strong week with the return of the Sleeping Beauty riff Briar, and new issues of mystery series The Displaced, Something is Killing the Children spinoff House of Slaughter, Josie Campbell’s all-age apocalypse series I Heart Skull-Crusher!, and Tony Fleecs and Dave Wachter’s cartoons vs. humans book Uncanny Valley. Basically, if you see BOOM! on the cover this week, buy that book.
