3. Curveball

This new book from writer Pablo Cartaya and artist Miguel Díaz Rivas has a great pedigree behind it — one has worked on Sesame Street, the other a best-selling illustrator — and looks neat to boot. The plot is about a girl who doesn’t know who she is without baseball, and is described as “Rollergirl meets Cardboard Kingdom.” Sold!
4. Anzu and the Realm of Darkness

This gorgeously colored book focuses on a young girl living in a town without magic who finds a gateway to another world — and ends up having to battle an evil queen.
5. Korgi: The Complete Tale

Christian Slade’s beloved story, a nearly-silent epic journey featuring one girl and her corgi, is now collected into a single volume by Top Shelf. Perfect for fans of Bone, in particular.

One of my absolute favorite books of the past few years, Soo Lee’s stunningly draw and colored book tells an escalating series of conflicts against the Disney villain as various characters enter the woods and try to defeat her. This new hardcover edition collects the whole series.
8. Fluffle Bunnies: Buns Gone Bad

They say don’t judge a book by its cover. But come on, look at that cover. But more seriously, this about three terrible bunnies who form a crime syndicate, so judge the book by its plot, as well, which also sounds great.
9. Summer Vamp

We do love a good pun here, don’t we, folks? And Summer Vamp is a pretty great one, as a human child ends up at a summer camp for vampires. Will it become a supper camp? You’ll have to read to find out.

Definitely for the older kids crowd, but in this book after the town witch gets burnt it’s up to a witch doctor and her toad companion to nurse her back to health.
