Groo is back for another adventure.
Who is the new Red and Blue Venom?
Paul Jenkins takes on Captain Marvel.
This is Comic Book Club News for December 24, 2025.
Groo Returns For The Prophecy:
As has been foretold, Groo the Wanderer will return once again in Dark Horse‘s Groo: The Prophecy.
In a shocking twist, this one will be written by Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier, with illustrations by Aragonés. I know! That’s never happened before. Anyway, colors are by Carrie Strachan, with letters by Stan Sakai.
Wondering what kind of trouble Groo and Rufferto will get in this time? Here’s the synopsis, per Dark Horse: “Groo and Rufferto travel far and wide in search of…well, they’re not sure what they’re searching for and Groo might not even know it if he finds it but they have to be somewhere. And where they wind up is the realm of the high priestess Syblia who has visions of catastrophe after catastrophe hitting her village…and none of them, oddly enough, is that Groo will be there!”
Groo: The Prophecy #1 hits stores on April 1, 2026.
Who Is The New Red And Blue Venom?:
Pretending to be Spider-Man is all the rage in Marvel Comics right now, and that won’t stop in 2026 as the Red and Blue Venom suit seen in Battleworld and the main Venom title will return in a new one-shot titled Web of Venom.
…But there’s a twist. While the suit was introduced in Battleworld worn by a version of Eddie Brock, and in Venom it was worn by Mary Jane, who is the current Venom, in Web of Venom #1 it’ll get adopted by an entirely different fan favorite character. And no, it does not seem to be Paul. Sadly.
Said writer Jordan Morris, “I don’t want to say too much about who is in the suit this time around, but it’s a deeper cut character I’ve always had a soft spot for (and I think many faithful Marvel readers do too). I can say it’s an epic comeback (wink) that fans won’t want to miss!”
Web of Venom #1 hits stores on April 8, 2026.
Paul Jenkins Takes On Captain Marvel:
After the announcement of his return to The Sentry — and Marvel — after a long absence, writer Paul Jenkins isn’t done quite yet. He’ll also tackle a five-issue limited series Captain Marvel: Dark Past with art by Lucas Werneck.
Said Jenkins via press release, “True Believers, I’m thrilled to be doing not one but two books back at the House of Ideas. Captain Marvel is such a great character who has also appeared as Ms. Marvel, Warbird and even Binary. With such a rich and complex past, under the guidance of so many amazing and talented writers, there is a ton of material for me to mine. I hope to bring my brand of characterization and storytelling to this great character, to examine what makes Carol who she is, and perhaps even to bring out a new wrinkle or two.”
Captain Marvel: Dark Past #1 hits stores on April 1, 2026 from Marvel.
