Usagi Yojimbo Heads Back To The ’80s:
Move over Miami Vice, here comes Usagi Yojimbo: Kaitō ’84. The new five-issue series from Dark Horse Comics takes Stan Sakai’s rabbit ronin back to the 1980s for a neon-infused adventure from a new creative team.
Written by Zack Rosenberg, with full watercolor art and hand-lettering by Jared Cullum, the new series features a descendant of the original Usagi going on adventures. Per Dark Horse, “In 1984 Osaka, the bloodline of Miyamoto Usagi lives on through Kaitō, a cunning rabbit thief with a rebellious spirit. He embodies his ancestor’s legacy in a way the stoic samurai we know and love never could. A daring new heist for a legendary spear sets Kaitō down a perilous path, forever altering his destiny and placing the fate of Osaka, and perhaps the world, on his shoulders.”
Usagi Yojimbo: Kaitō ’84 #1 hits stores on March 11, 2026.
Dynamite Blind Bags Get Double Stuffed:
It’s time to get stuffed for Thanksgiving as Dynamite is offering not one, but two comics in their Blind Bags for DIE!NAMITE: Blood Red #1 — which is in stores this week.
As previously announced, the new issue by Fred Van Lente and artist Marco Finnegan is coming in a Blind Bag that features homage covers including Jaws, Weapons, and Army of Darkness, as well as the possibly of limited-edition variants. But now as a surprise to celebrate Dynamite’s first Blind Bag, per PR from the publisher, “each and every bag now includes an additional colored blank variant.” So yeah, that’s two comics, one bag.
If you’re curious about the book itself, a man-killing virus has ravaged the Earth, and it’s up to Vampirella, Red Sonja, Dejah Thoris, Miss Fury, Purgatori, and more to save the day — or at least, try to survive the zombie plague.
Alongside Finnegan, contributing artists to the covers include EJ Su, David Cousens, Will Robson, and Godtail. You can pick up the double-stuffed bags in stores now.
Larry Hama Announces New Superhero Series:
Last year, artist M.D. “Doc” Bright — known for his work on Armor Wars, Quantum & Woody and others — passed away at age 68. And now his final work, with writer Larry Hama, The Center Holds will get released by BOOM! Studios next year.
In the oversized first issue, per PR from the publisher, “A new superhero universe is born!” Specifically, the central idea here is that with superheroes just part of daily life, they’re required to join a union, or face serious fines for any damage from battles.
In honor of Bright, BOOM! Studios and Hama are donating 2% of the sales of the book to The Hero Initiative. The Center Holds #1 hits stores on February 11, 2026.
