Act 4 Publishing is bringing another classic to your bookshelf in a deluxe format with Doctor Strange by Paul Smith Artist’s Edition.
The 12″ x 17″ hardcover will run 192 pages and feature Doctor Strange issues #65, #69, #70, and #72, as well as 40 other pages, covers, and rare artwork, all presented in a format as close to the original artwork as you can get without actually holding the original artwork. The book, which will be distributed through Skybound, will also feature Smith’s first work for Marvel, a 10-page Daredevil story from Marvel Fanfare #1, who is a different character from Doctor Strange and now I’m mad. That’s like ordering a scrumptious pizza and finding a quarter of a delicious cheeseburger stuffed in the crust.
“Paul Smith, at this point in his career, was doing some of his best Marvel art ever,” said Act 4’s Scott Dunbier via press release. “A good portion of this book features Paul inking his own stuff, and his delicate linework is truly a treat to behold, just gorgeous.”
Added Senior Editor Nachie Marsham, “Paul Smith was truly hitting an amazing stride when he took on Doctor Strange. This Artist’s Edition is a stellar showcase of his linework and imagination.”
Doctor Strange by Paul Smith Artist’s Edition joins Jim Aparo’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition, as well as the forthcoming George Pérez’s The New Teen Titans Artist’s Edition, The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko Artist’s Edition, Darwyn Cooke’s The Complete Spirit Connoisseur Edition, Wally Wood’s EC Stories Artist’s Edition-EXPANDED, and Mike Mignola’s Hellboy in Hell Book 2 Artist’s Edition. Those will all be on sale in 2026, followed by J. Scott Campbell’s Danger Girl Artist Edition, Dave Stevens’ Covers and Stories’ Connoisseur Edition, and Jason Pearson’s Body Bags Artist’s Edition at a later date. No word on whether those will also inexplicably contain Daredevil stories. Grrrrrr…
Doctor Strange by Paul Smith Artist’s Edition costs $150 and will hit comic book stores on August 12, 2026.
