Look, I don’t want to cause alarm here, but it looks like Marvel Studios may be pivoting to the binge drop route, versus the weekly release. Why do I say that? Because after Wonder Man took the same tact last month, thanks to Disney’s list of shows coming to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ in March, it sure looks like Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will release all eight episodes on March 24.
To get even more precise, according to the monthly “new ons” list, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will premiere Tuesday, March 24 at 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET, the same day of week and time as Wonder Man. And to add fuel to the fire, there’s no listing for Daredevil: Born Again on the next Tuesday (usually Disney lists individual episodes out weekly with “new episode” a la American Idol or Locker Diaries, to call out two other series on the new ons). Meaning putting Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 as premiering on March 24 also means it’s finale-ing on March 24 as well.
This is a big change from how Season 1 was released, with a staggered schedule that saw two episodes some weeks, one episode other weeks, throughout the nine episode Freshman season. But it’s also a return to the way the show was released on Netflix for the first three seasons… And particularly with Netflix cohort Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) returning to help out Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) in Season 2, it seems fair to think the powers-that-be wanted to release this season the same way Netflix fans are used to: binge-style.
…Or it could be a total realigning of how Marvel shows are released. Perhaps the weekly model just isn’t working the same way, and certainly dropping all eight episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 in one evening could help the overall first week streaming numbers. But for those of us who like watching and discussing shows week to week? Bummer, man.
We’ve reached out to Disney to confirm the release schedule, but did not hear back as of publication time.
