Dan Slott Returns To Spider-Man For New Marvel Series:

Dan Slott left Marvel towards the beginning of 2025, burning all his bridges with his long-time compatriots to follow his dream of writing Superman for DC Comics. Just kidding, it was amicable, and in fact Slott has already signed up for at least one Marvel project — that would be Fantastic Four: First Foes. And now he’s returning to Spider-Man, just in time for a brand new movie with the new ongoing series Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Featuring art by Marcos To, covers by Phil Jimenez, and backup stories with artist Marcos Martin, the series will hit in May, just before Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters this July.

Slott was instrumental in crafting the original Brand New Day storyline back in 2008, which followed up on the controversial “One More Day” storyline. That erased the marriage of Peter Parker and Mary Jane, but opened up the door for Peter to date such iconic characters as Carlie Cooper, Shay [Editor’s Note: Does she have a last name? Can we check on that?], and I want to say Captain Marvel, maybe? That can’t be right.

In Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Spidey finds out Kingpin has a book called The Lexicon that is a directory of all his criminal goings-on. While Spider-Man wants to use it to take down Wilson Fisk, Mr. Negative and The Punisher would also very much like that book. As for how it ties into the movie? The Punisher is in it! So… There you go.

Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day #1 hits stores on May 13, 2026.

Disney’s The Owl House Continues As A New Graphic Novel:

Disney’s beloved The Owl House is back — not in Pog form, but as an original graphic novel sequel to the animated series titled The Long-Lived King: An Original The Owl House Graphic Novel.

Written by Dana Terrace and Mikki Crisostomo, with art by Daun Han, the new book is set after the events of the series finale, and per the title will focus on the character King. Now aware he’ll outlive the rest of the Owl House family, he uses a device to erase sad memories — but accidentally erases all of Luz’s memories. Now it’s up to King, the Collector and Eda to get Luz’s memories back, and face their deepest fears along the way.

Recently, Terrace launched the Glitch Studios animated series Knights of Guinevere, which was picked up to series after a successful pilot was posted to YouTube. Interestingly, it’s pretty easy to read some of the criticism Terrace has had of working with Disney in the pilot, so whatever beef she has from working on The Owl House seems to have been settled enough to get this graphic novel going.

The Long-Lived King: An Original The Owl House Graphic Novel hits stores on September 29, 2026 from Hyperion Avenue.

The Comics Staple, A Monthly Zine, Launches:

Hot on the heels of the success of the quarterly The Comics Courier, Eisner judge Tiffany Babb is launching The Comics Staple, a new, monthly zine featuring comic book news, reviews and interviews.

The 12-page black and white monthly is print only, and will feature writing from folks like David Brothers, Oliver Sava, David Harper, Susana Polo, Rob Salkowitz, Omar Valdivieso, Zack Quaintance, Jim McDermott, and Tiffany Babb. It will also feature a page on weird comics history from Mary Tyler Moorehawk creator Dave Baker.

While we have yet to see how successful this will be — the Kickstarter is launching soon — this is just one of several print experiments launched recently. There’s also Comics! The Magazine, which sort of follows up on Chip Zdarsky’s Zdarsky Comic News, and Benjamin Percy’s fictional newspaper The End Times.

So is comic book news back? Is it lucrative? Can you make your living at it now? Gosh, I sure hope so.
