One Piece Manga Free To Read Online:
In advance of the release of the second season of the live-action One Piece on Netflix, Viz Media, via the Shonen Jump app, is making the first 155 chapters of the Manga free-to-read online.
For TV watchers, that should cover everything that’s being adapted in the Netflix series, all the way through almost the end of what’s titled “The Alabasta Saga.” However, as you may be aware, there’s a lot more One Piece out there. In fact, this free-to-read portion is not even 13% of the total story that’s been released, which is starting to stretch up to 1200 chapters.
Still, if you have never checked out One Piece and are curious, head to the Shonen Jump App, where those 155 chapters are free to download until April 10.
Abrams Announces New Derf Backderf Book:
Earlier this week, Abrams sent out a list of their graphic novel releases for this Fall. And hidden in there was a surprise: a new graphic novel from the critically acclaimed creator of My Friend Dahmer, Derf Backderf.
Titled The Dissidents, the new book is set in the United States during World War I and, per PR, “follows cartoonists, journalists, and activists targeted by the federal government under the Espionage Act as dissent is criminalized and fear is used as a political weapon. As the story unfolds, the parallels to the present are stark. Surveillance, propaganda, attacks on the press, and the erosion of civil liberties feel uncomfortably familiar, making The Dissidents a reminder that the fight over free expression in America is not new and far from settled.”
The new book will hit stores on September 15, which is a ways away so I’m sure it won’t be as relevant then, right? …Right?
Bleeding Hearts Gets Second Printing:
Here’s a good sign for the future prospects of DC‘s Vertigo: the Deniz Camp written, Stipan Morian drawn zombie book Bleeding Hearts #1 is heading back for a second bite. Or to be more specific, the first issue is getting a second printing.
Sweetening the deal, the second printing will feature the main cover by Stipan Morian with a newly colored logo, as well as an inks-only version of Nick Dragotta’s variant.
To be even more specific, the second printing, per DC, is based on “strong demand” — nothing in the provided press release says the book has sold out at the distributor level or anything. But it does mean that as the new DC Vertigo line builds over the month and (hopefully) word of mouth spurs on continued sales, a second printing will be available in stores on March 18, right after issue #2 hits on March 11.
