Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho is a controversial classic that has inspired decades of debate, and a pretty great movie adaptation (as well as a stage musical I haven’t seen, so I can’t speak to that). And now the Folio Society is offering up a brand new limited edition of the novel featuring illustrations and even a business card for Patrick Bateman.
“We at Folio have had great success with modern cult novels, and they hardly come more culty than this,” said James Rose, Head of Editorial at Folio, via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “One of the most controversial and talked-about novels of all time, American Psycho has become more prophetic than ever as it charts the rise of narcissistic sociopaths in 1980s Wall Street—the sort of people that we’re now seeing going to the top of US politics. Artist David Hughes is brave enough to tackle some of the more ghastly scenes, but always with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humour and a keen eye on the novel’s satire. By marrying Bret Easton Ellis’ divisive and dangerous text with David Hughes’ funny and disturbing illustrations, this will be the perfect edition of the iconic and brilliant satire.”
The new edition is limited to 750 copies, and includes a a new box design, cover design, endpapers, and illustrations by David Hughes, as well as a pinstripe lining and, per PR, “Patrick Bateman’s business card, styled exactly as it is in the film (spelling mistakes and all).” The book also features a new introduction by Irvine Welsh, alongside the original afterword by Ellis.
The extremely limited edition is available right now for a hefty $650, but we expect it to make a killing… These editions sell out quicker than you can say “oh my god, it even has a watermark.”

I really try to avoid the Folio scams that keep coming, $500 LE’s for a badly illustrated book with the illustrator’s signed card glued into the front. But this one has a signed letter from the author glued into the front and it has some interesting design elements that I think make this one irresistible. I bought 15 minutes into the sale and with only 45 minutes having passed, there are only 200 left… It will sell out within a few hours…
