Industry on HBO drops a fair amount of shocking scenes every week, but the end of this week’s episode, “1000 Yoots, 1 Marilyn” may have taken the cake thanks to an absolute nightmare that — spoilers past this point — left one character dead, and another maimed. Yep, RIP James Dycker, that’s a series wrap on actor Charlie Heaton, and Rishi Ramdani (Sagar Radia) is down for the count as well.
We’ve already recapped what went down at length (check out the linked breakdown above), but the short version is that completely accidentally fintech journalist Dycker and disgraced now drug dealer Rishi bump into each other at a pub. Dycker immediately cops to knowing who Rishi is, and later Rishi confesses he broke into Dycker’s place to get info on him for Harper (Myha’la). But it is in fact unfortunate that these two down-on-their-luck losers are in the same place at the same time.
Possibly less lucky is the appearance of Dez Watkins (Martin Hancock), a man who claims to be scaring off an “urchin” gwho ets people hepped up on “some fucking spooky PCP or some shit. It’ll fuck you up, then he’ll take you round the corner, and he’ll turn you over for your wallet and your watch.” While the show doesn’t explicitly state this at any point, Dez’s appearance could perhaps be at the behest of someone like Tender CFO Whitney Halberstram (Max Minghella), who was put off when Dycker’s line of questioning hit a little too hard after Tender’s app launch, earlier in the episode.
Regardless of Dez’s motives, all three end up back at Rishi’s place, with Rishi and Dycker getting each other coked up and drunk, and Dez blasting the stereo louder and louder. Pure speculation, but since this is what brings the cops to Rishi’s apartment later, right after Dez exits, it all seems a little convenient as a setup.
Anyway, lots goes down as Rishi and Dycker yell at each other about consent, dating, porn, and ultimately how Rishi’s wife was shot in the head in front of him in the Industry Season 3 finale. It’s that last part that shakes Rishi to the core, and after giving Dycker some coke, he heads to the bathroom to have some coke himself and get recentered.
How James Dycker Dies On Industry: Has Charlie Heaton Exited The Series?

After the warning of PCP-laced drugs, it seems that it was Rishi’s stash — not some dude on the street — that kills Dycker (unless it was Dez, somehow). The last we see of Dycker, he’s ranting as Rishi goes into the bathroom. Then, while “Set You Free” by N-Trance plays on the blasting radio, Rishi discovers the dead body of Dycker. There’s a banging at the door, and sure enough, it’s the police, who are there for a complaint about the noise.
Rishi looks over the scene — the drugs, the drinks, the dead Dycker — and heads to the balcony. Gasping, scared, and shoeless, Rishi brings himself to the balcony. The cops burst through the door, find Dycker, and take his pulse. There’s nothing. And this is sort of a non-spoiler spoiler, but yes, Dycker is in fact dead, and Charlie Heaton has exited the series. He’s not suddenly recovered in next week’s episode, and saves the day by figuring out what’s up with Tender or anything. No, Stranger Things may have been unable to kill Jonathan Byers, but Industry sure figured out a way to do it.
That’s not the end of the horror, though.
Rishi Survives, But Barely
While Dycker is dead, Rishi is much worse for the wear. As “…Can set you free,” plays on the lyrics, Rishi thrusts himself off the balcony, and drops with a bloody crunch just off screen.
Horrifyingly…. Rishi manages to screw up killing himself. Instead, he breaks both of his legs, and is lying there on the ground, sobbing and trying to crawl away as “Forever Young” by Alphaville plays, a last little twist of the knife. The cops arrest him, handcuff him, and our final shot of Rishi is him head on the ground, finally getting the punishment he thinks he deserves.
This is a season wrap on Rishi, by the way. While Rishi could potentially show up again in a Season 5 — as of this writing, the show has yet to be picked up for an additional season by HBO — he’s not going to get a redemption arc in Season 4. He’s lost his job, his investigative job for Harper, his son, his wife, and now his drug dealing job has led to Dycker’s death, something he’s definitely going down for. So yeah, no upsides for Rishi. Sorry.
