Discover Torment’s Origin In ‘Death Spiral: Body Count’

Torment, a new super-powered serial killer, will make his debut next month in Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral #1, which kicks off a nine-part crossover through issues of Amazing Spider-Man and Venom. But there’s a tenth, secret part of the crossover: Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral Body Count #1, which will hit in May and reveal the origin of Torment.

You know what the origin of my torment is? Too many crossovers! Ka-zing! Try to get ChatGPT to write killer jokes like that, AIPT!

Anywho, the one-shot will be written by Charles Soule, who is also writing the crossover with Joe Kelly and Al Ewing, and will feature art by Kev Walker. And despite the title, it seems like we won’t find out how many people Torment has had sex with. Probably.

“When Carnage hit the comic page it made you think Venom wasn’t that bad,” said Editor Nick Lowe via press release. “Torment does that to Carnage here. He’s not a symbiote… he’s something much, much worse. And when you read what Charles Soule and Kev Walker serve up here with his origin… you may want to get a nightlight.”

It’s a little curious that seemingly we won’t get the origin of Torment in the crossover itself, though Marvel further teases “when the violence finally subsides, fans will be left wondering the truth behind the murderer’s dark motives and how deep his mysterious connection to Peter goes.”

And Marvel also teases that each issue of the crossover will come with a connecting cover by Iban Coello, alongside Cafu’s main cover for Death Spiral Body Count.

Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral Body Count #1 hits stores on May 13. Check out the covers, synopsis, and Iban Coello’s connecting covers for the crossover below.

THE ORIGIN OF TORMENT!

The scariest new villain in the Marvel Universe finally gets his story told! He’s hunted Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson and Eddie Brock, killing his way to their throats and wrapping his razor whip around them. What forged the deadliest serial killer since Cletus Kasady? Find out in this one shot that will define Torment’s past and his future!
