On today’s episode, we’re breaking down the highlights from DC Comics’s April 2026 solicits, including Next Level, Absolute Universe, and more.
This is Comic Book Club News for January 27, 2026.
DC Comics April 2026 Solicit Highlights:
DC’s Next Level initiative continues apace in April with the release of Zatanna #1 from Jamal Campbell, and The Fury of Firestorm from Jeff Lemire and Rafael De Latorre. Both are meant to be big swings that can be read on their own, while still existing in the mainline DC Universe. Meanwhile, March’s titles — Batwoman, Deathstroke: The Terminator, and Lobo — hit second issues as well.
Over in the Absolute Universe, Scarecrow arrives in Absolute Batman #19, while King Shazam makes his debut in Absolute Superman #18. And in Absolute Flash #14, Wally is trapped in the Mirror Dimension — which if I know anything, means a lot of evil mustaches and beards.
The Superman books continue the Reign of the Superboys in the absence of Superman, with Superboy Prime taking the lead in Superman #37, Jon Kent becoming little again in Superman Unlimited #12, and in Action Comics #1097, the original Superboy gets visited by some heroes from the future.
One of the biggest “lost” projects of all time finally gets published as Swamp Thing 1989 #1 hits, printing Rick Veitch’s story of Swampy meeting Jesus, presented in the original, 1989 format including newsprint and ads.
Jeph Loeb follows up H2SH, which is supposed to finally end in March, with Batman/Wonder Woman: Truth #1, alongside artist Jim Cheung, as Harley Quinn and The Joker team up to steal Wonder Woman’s lasso.
Justice League Intergalactic Special #1 finds Jadzia Axelrod and Nicole Maines teaming up to launch a new, cosmic Justice League. The “Wonder War” storyline continues in Wonder Woman #32. Batman/Superman: World’s Finest celebrates 50 issues with, among other things, a guest appearance by Weird Al. Bizarro: Year None #1 adapts a lost origin script for the Superman antagonist by Kevin Smith and Eric Carrasco. And MAD About DC is an over-sized one-shot edited by Chip Zdarsky skewering the DC Universe from a slew of all-star creators.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And H2SH has taken so long to come out, they should call it H3SH!
