Marvel reveals Ultimate Universe Finale.
GLAAD Media Award nominees announced.
New Angoulême is coming in 2027.
This is Comic Book Club News for January 14, 2026.
Marvel Reveals Ultimate Universe Finale:
The Ultimate Universe is ending this April from Marvel Comics… But not with Ultimate Endgame #5, as expected. Instead, Marvel is taking one more encore with Ultimate Universe Finale #1, as all the Ultimate Universe creative teams teach them how to say goodbye.
The one-shot takes place after Endgame, which raises some questions about how final everything is in that, er, final issue. And as for the creative teams, everyone is there: Deniz Camp, Chris Condon, Jonathan Hickman, Bryan Hill, Peach Momoko, Alessandro Cappuccio, Stefano Caselli, Marco Checchetto, and Juan Frigeri. And you! You are there, too.
Ultimate Universe Finale #1 hits stores on April 29.
GLAAD Media Award Nominees Announced:
The 2026 GLAAD Media Award nominations have been announced, honoring “those in the media who have shown exemplary achievements for fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of the LGBTQ community.”
And included in that list are a bunch of comics and graphic novels. Per The Beat, James Tynion IV is one of the most nominated, with three titles on the list, and letterers Steve Wands and Aditya Bidikar each nabbed two noms.
Publisher-wise, DC Comics and Marvel each snagged three nominations, while Top Shelf and BOOM! netted out with two.
As for titles? The Outstanding Comic Book nominees are: Absolute Green Lantern, Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices, The Department of Truth, Exceptional X-Men, Minor Arcana, The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos: Children of the Night, Poison Ivy, Runaways, Secret Six, and Wynd: The Power of the Blood.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on March 5.
New Angoulême Festival Coming In 2027:
After this year’s Angoulême festival was canceled, the premiere comic convention is coming back in 2027. Sort of.
Per Bleeding Cool, after the previous version of the festival was met with mass protests due to multiple issues, not least of which an employee seemingly being dismissed after reporting she was sexually assaulted at the festival, the mayor of Angoulême has announced an entirely new festival, with a new board of directors and organizers, for next year.
Though there aren’t many further details, there will be applications open for potential organizers until March 12, and it is expected the new version of the festival will occur a year after that. As for this year’s fest? A pop-up event is planned called le Grand Off, which will take place at the end of this month in cities across France.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And I’m GLAD to hear about those nominations.
