Action Comics #1 Sells For $15 Million:
A little over a month after a copy of Superman #1 brought in a record price at auction at $9.12 million, that record has been broken. A CGC 9.0 graded copy of Action Comics #1 has been sold for $15 million.
In this case, per the AP, the copy was sold in a private sale to a collector who wishes to remain anonymous by Metropolis Collectibles / ComicConnect of New York, versus the Superman copy, which was sold by Heritage Auctions.
This copy of Action Comics #1 also has a wild history behind it. The copy was previously owned by actor Nicolas Cage, who bought it in 1996 for $150,000. It was then stolen from him back in 2000, went missing for 11 years, then found in a storage locker whose contents were being auctioned in 2011, and returned to Cage. He promptly turned around and auctioned it off himself the same year for $2.16 million.
Daredevil #1 Blind Bags Will Be Shipped Safely, Promises Marvel:
Marvel’s Ultimate Endgame #1 Blind Bag program wasn’t exactly a disaster, but thanks to some less-than-safe shipping procedures, hundreds of copies were reported damaged. Well, the publisher is promising they won’t have the same issues with Daredevil #1, which has shifted back a week from hitting on March 25, to April 1.
Per Bleeding Cool, Marvel sent a message to retailers assuring them they are taking extra measures with the second round of Blind Bags.
“We’re aware that a portion of last week’s Ultimate Endgame #1 True Believers Blind Bag shipments had imperfections or packing issues. While we confirmed early shipments and production checks did not have these issues, we are working to implement different packaging alternatives, additional quality checks, and other production changes to ensure March’s Daredevil #1 True Believers Blind Bags do not encounter these issues, especially considering it is published on April Fool’s Day. We’ve been thrilled to see the incredible excitement across the board for Ultimate Endgame and the one-of-a-kind finds in the blind bags, so our top priority is ensuring the next blind bag program meets everyone’s expectations.”
Given these Blind Bags once again have one-of-a-kind sketches from top name artists… Good.
Graphic Novel Sales Rose In 2025:
Graphic novels are back, baby! After two years of falling sales, the total number of adult graphic novels grew to 25.9 million books, up 9.2% year over year.
That’s the long and the short of the news, per Publishers Weekly, which does not list any specific adult graphic novel titles. However, on their list of the Top 20 books of the year, the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid is at number five with over 817,000 copies sold, while two volumes of Dog Man charted as well at number six and number eight, with 767,000 copies sold and 681,000 copies sold respectively.
So if you’re wondering why, say, Absolute Batman Volume 1 isn’t on there? The number 20 book on the list sold over 475,000 copies — so DC’s breakout hit likely sold less than that.
