DC Comics‘ Absolute Flash is almost done with its first year — issue #10 just debuted this past week — and will wrap up a lot of the main storyline in Absolute Flash #12. So… What’s next in Absolute Flash Year Two? Writer Jeff Lemire has opened up about some of what to expect in his latest newsletter.
Per Lemire, the story he and artist Nick Robles “have been laying down since #1 are now all coming together. Issue 11-12 will feature a huge confrontation between Wally, The Rogues and Elenore Thawne.” If you haven’t been reading the title, and you should, Wally is at Fort Fox, the place where he accidentally got his powers. Meanwhile, the Rogues aren’t too far behind. And Wally just discovered a horrific version of Eobard Thawne, who emerged from a ball of energy and threw Wally into it.
In Absolute Flash #11, hitting stores on January 21, 2026, Wally will try to escape from this strange dimension to save his father’s life. Then in Absolute Flash #12 on February 18, 2026, it’s Wally versus Eobard with the fate of everyone in Fort Fox hanging in the balance.
Up until this point, all we’ve known about Absolute Flash #13 is that it’s coming out on March 18, 2026 with a redacted cover, and the synopsis, “IN THE SHADOW OF FORT FOX! Wally tries to pick up the pieces of his life after the battle at Fort Fox. Adrift and unsure what to do, the young speedster looks for a way forward.”
Hey, how about a little more to go on from Lemire?
Over the last month or so I have been deep into planning the next year of stories for Absolute Flash. Issue 12 will tie up many loose ends and finish up a lot of the current plot. But, it will also set Wally West on an entirely new path that will introduce a number of new elements, and characters, to his world and ti The Flash’s corner of the Absolute Universe. In my second year I really want to focus on building out the “Super Science” corner of the Absolute Universe. This will mean introducing the Absolute versions of some fan-favourite DC characters for the first time. I can’t spoil who just yet, but Nick and I will be creating the Absolute versions of two seminal DC heroes next year.
Naturally, one’s mind could go to Flash adjacent characters, given the title, though “Super Science” opens a lot of other avenues. We could be talking about a Max Mercury or a Bart Allen; or we could be talking about a hero like The Atom, who (I believe) has yet to show up in the Absolute Universe. Heck, the “two seminal heroes” thing could cover both Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi, who knows?
But first, Lemire teases that we’re going to finally pick up on a dangling plotline from the Free Comic Book Day special in May, and Absolute Evil from October: what Mirror Master is up to.
In addition to these new characters and concepts, Issues 13-14 will feature the first big Mirror Master story, following up on the storylines teased way back in the Free Comic Book Day story and Absolute Evil. These issues will be drawn by the very talented Haining, and then Nick will come back for Issue 15 where we first meet ABSOLUTE *****!!
Hmmm… Five letters, if Lemire is being extra teasing. Could it be “Shade”? Or literally anything else? We’ll know more when Absolute Flash continues its run in 2026.
