Lars Eidinger Cast As Villain Brainiac In ‘Man Of Tomorrow’

Actor Lars Eidinger has been cast as the villain Brainiac in the upcoming Superman semi-sequel Man of Tomorrow. The news was announced by writer/director James Gunn on BlueSky.

“In our worldwide search for Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow, Lars Eidinger rose to the top,” Gunn writes. “Welcome to the DCU, Lars.”

Eidinger is a German actor probably best known for appearing on the German series Babylon Berlin, and in the Netflix series All the Light We Cannot See. Most recently he appeared in Netflix’s Jay Kelly as “German Cyclist” so this is a little bit of a step up for him. HBO viewers may also recognize Eidinger as Gottfried or Fernand Herrmann in the short-lived series Irma Vep.

Following up on the events of Superman, the upcoming movie Man of Tomorrow will reteam David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, this time to take on a greater threat. That threat? The extraterrestrial, super-smart Brainiac, who at least in the comics has a habit of destroying planets and bottling cities in order to gain more knowledge. There have been various takes on the character throughout the history of DC Comics, though the picture Gunn shared was the version by artist Francis Manapul from 2009’s Superman: Secret Files and Origins 2009. That one is not just a formidable mental threat, he’s a physical one as well — able to go toe to toe with Superman in a fist fight.

Man of Tomorrow is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027, with filming on the movie expected to begin April of 2026 in Atlanta. Before that, though, you’ll reportedly get to see Corenswet reprise his role in next year’s upcoming Supergirl.

Eidinger is also an accomplished DJ, interestingly enough. Here’s a two-hour long set he did last year at the Schlegel Club in Bochum, Germany:
