The release schedules for Marvel’s Disney+ shows have been all over the place. Some get a weekly release. Others three a week. Still others two episodes, then one episode, then… Without belaboring the point, there’s no real consistency. So you can add next year’s Wonder Man to that list, as all eight episodes of the show will be released on the same day.
The last show to get that treatment was Echo, and that was also a “Marvel Spotlight” show — i.e. one that Marvel Studios says you don’t have to watch anything else in the MCU to jump right in. But just like Echo, which followed up on the events of the original three seasons of Daredevil as well as Hawkeye, Wonder Man includes the character of Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), who has previously appeared in Iron Man 3, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and a Marvel One-Shot short titled “Hail To The King.” In addition, Arian Moayed will appear as Damage Control agent P. Cleary after previously appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Ms. Marvel. But sure, Wonder Man is a standalone project that doesn’t require any previous viewing. I guess.
Wonder Man also stars: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (aka Black Manta in the Aquaman movies and Dr. Manhattan in HBO’s Watchmen) as Simon Williams, an aspiring actor; Zlatko Burić (aka the dictator Hawkgirl killed in Superman) as a reclusive director rebooting the Wonder Man franchise; Demetrius Grosse as Simon’s villainous brother Eric, aka the Grim Reaper; Ed Harris as Simon’s agent; X Mayo and Olivia Thirlby in mystery roles; and Byron Bowers as Doorman.
In any case, you’re probably wondering when you can check out these eight episodes… Wonder Man will premiere at 9pm ET / 6pm PT on Tuesday, January 27, which is a fun Tuesday night for you.
Here’s the official synopsis for the series, per Disney:
Aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film “Wonder Man.” These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.
