Free Comic Book Day splits in two.

This is Comic Book Club News for December 11, 2025.

DC Announces Creative Teams For Superman / Spider-Man:

Move over, Deadpool and Batman, it’s time for the main event: Superman and Spider-Man are meeting once again in two one-shots coming in 2026. And DC Comics has announced the details for their side of the latest Marvel crossover book, titled Superman/Spider-Man #1.

The lead story will be written by Mark Waid with art by Jorge Jiménez, and per PR from DC, “When journalists Clark Kent and Peter Parker find themselves chasing the same story, the conspiracy they uncover could change the world—especially if Brainiac and Doctor Octopus have anything to say about it. (And we bet they do!) Good thing our intrepid newshounds are secretly Superman and the amazing Spider-Man.”

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though. Here’s what else to expect from the issue, and the back-ups sound (no insult to Waid and Jiménez) even better than the main story. You’ve got:

  • Tom King and Jim Lee tell a tale of Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson
  • Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber revisit Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen…and Carnage
  • Sean Murphy takes us to the future with Superboy (Legion) and Spider-Man 2099
  • Gail Simone teams up with Belén Ortega for a look at what happens when Power Girl meets Punisher
  • Christopher Priest and Daniel Sampere show us a time when Superboy Prime (who reads all the comics!) decided to visit Spider-Man right after he got the black suit
  • Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott take us on an exciting race between the Daily Planet and the Daily Bugle
  • Plus, we finally get to answer the age-old question of who would win in a fair fight: Pa Kent or Uncle Ben! (Just kidding, those guys are too nice to fight each other, but Jeff Lemire and Rafa Sandoval will take us deep into the past to see the two men bond in the face of adversity.)

The last story will be fun when it’s revealed Pa Kent is the robber who killed Uncle Ben, but I digress.

Naturally, there are a slew of covers for the issue, which will hit stores on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. Details on Marvel’s Spider-Man / Superman, which will hit in April, are TBA.

Event Horizon Gets A Sequel:

IDW and writer Christian Ward aren’t quite done with Event Horizon yet. Nearly 30 years after the release of the cult classic, Ward has been going hog wild with the prequel comic Dark Descent. But it ain’t over until Paimon says it’s over, and they’re keeping the demonic party going with an official sequel, Event Horizon: Inferno.

Set 200 years after the events of the movie, Ward will team up with artist Rob Carey to bring an entirely different look at cosmic horror. And based on the covers at least, to misquote Robbie Williams: you’ll be loving angels instead.

Event Horizon: Inferno #1 hits stores in April of 2026.

Free Comic Book Day Splits Into Two Events, Adds Games:

Free Comic Book Day is going through changes in 2026. While the annual event will still happen on May 2, 2026, aka the first Saturday of May, it’s going to be split in two. And also adding games.

Per The Beat, due to the sale of Diamond Comics Distributor’s assets, Universal Distribution ultimately ended up with the Free Comic Book Day brand. While they were able to partner up with Lunar Distribution for the event, at this time negotiations with Penguin Random House have been less fruitful — meaning the latter will be going forward with their own event, tentatively titled Comics Giveaway Day. Not only that, since Universal’s main business is working with Trading Card Game stores, they’re working to include Wizards of the Coast and Upper Deck in their version of the event as well.

So, what does this all mean for the comic book consumer? Unclear at this point. We know that Free Comic Book Day will include Archie Comics, DC Comics, Dynamite, Image Comics, Mad Cave Studios,  Oni Press, Titan Comics, Udon Entertainment and Vault Comics, as well as the trading card companies.

As for Comics Giveaway Day, if that does move forward it would include Marvel Comics, Boom, IDW, DSTLRY, Ignition, and others — possibly held on the same say as Free Comic Book Day.

So from the consumer perspective, more stores, more comics, plus trading cards. From the store perspective, since they actually need to pay for and order all these things? A nightmare headache. We’ll have more on this as it develops.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And hey, maybe Pa Kent and Uncle Ben will die simultaneously, that’s what they’re good at.
