This is Comic Book Club News for December 10, 2025.

Sara Pichelli Gets No Royalties From Miles Morales:

Here’s the latest comic book tempest in a teapot: artist Sara Pichelli gets no royalties off Miles Morales, a character she co-created.

The news comes from the Brazilian site Jamesons, who interviewed Pichelli at CCXP 2025. In the interview, which seems light and jokey from the con floor, Pichelli — in translated statements — notes that “I don’t get anything. And that’s the saddest part of my life.”

Naturally, this being the internet, the fact that Pichelli was joking got lost literally in translation, and sparked a discussion about creator rights. Miles was co-created by Brian Michael Bendis and Pichelli, though since he’s considered derivative of Peter Parker Spider-Man, neither creator gets any royalties or rights to his appearances in movies, video games, or as a toy.

Pichelli, for her part, fired back on Instagram, blasting the “embarrassing clickbait news” that “twisted completely the tone of our conversation.” She also urged fans not to “use me or my work to take sides” even though “royalties and copyright are hot topics.” Last but not least, she added “when a creator does an interview during a show (and CCXP was insanely busy) are being generous and kind, please don’t ever take advantage of that to create questionable content to get more followers. Be better, do better.”

For what it’s worth, Jamesons seemed to be merely presenting the words of her interview on social, and instead other sites threw the interview quotes in the headline. Which were quotes. So.

In related news, Pichelli and Bendis are reuniting for a new story for Marvel next year. Will they get royalties for whatever that is? TBD.

The Beauty Is Getting A New Printing:

Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley’s The Beauty is getting a new printing, in advance of the upcoming FX and Hulu TV series adaptation.

Per ICv2, The Beauty Book One will collect the first 11 issues of the series originally published through Image Comics, now released through Ignition Press. It will feature a new cover by Haun.

If you’re not familiar, The Beauty takes place in a world where an STD makes you look like your best self, with the side effect that some people start spontaneously combusting. Meanwhile, a killer seems to be stalking those with The Beauty, as well. The TV series is from Ryan Murphy, and takes significant liberties with the premise, so that should be fun.

The Beauty hits FX and Hulu on January 21, while The Beauty Book One hits stores the day before, on January 20, 2026.

Lake Como Comic Art Festival Announces Guest List:

The Lake Como Comic Art Festival, a boutique convention held at the Villa Erba in Cernobbio, Lake Como, Italy, has announced the lucky ducks who get to exhibit at this year’s fest.

Those guests include Liam Sharp, who will provide an exclusive portfolio featuring a one-of-a-kind exclusive art print spotlighting Conan the Barbarian, and an original hand-drawn remarque and signature for anyone who gets the VIP ticket package.

That’s all well and good, but who else will be lounging on the shores of Lake Como this year? How about: Alan Davis, Alex Maleev, Alvaro Martinez Bueno, Brian Bolland, Carmen Carnero, Dani, David Mack, Dustin Nguyen, Esad Ribic, Frank Cho, Gabriele Dell’Otto, Gary Frank, J Scott Campbell, Mahmud Asrar, Pepe Larraz, Sara Pichelli, Stanley Artgerm Lau, Terry Dodson, and many more.

The Lake Como Comic Art Festival is less of a comic convention than a curated art experience, and will be held over two days: Saturday, April 25th and Sunday, April 26th. In addition to tables for the artists, there are workshops, panels, and an opening night reception. So it’s sort of like a comic convention, let’s not get too over our skis.

Tickets are on sale now, and they’re not cheap.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And I would love to go skiing at the Lake Como Comic Art Festival, just to throw it out there.
