If you’re a fan of Guillaume “Run” Renard’s MFKZ, we have great (exclusive) news: Magnetic Press is releasing the first three volumes collecting the series starting right about… Now.
Specifically, deluxe hardcover collections are available as of today, including the beginnings of the graphic novel series that spun out of Renard’s 2002 short film Mutafukaz: Operation Blackhead. It has since become a hit film on Netflix from Studio 4C, directed by Shôjirô Nishimi and Renard, starring Vince Staples, Kenn Michael, Giancarlo Esposito, Michael Chiklis, Danny Trejo and RZA.
But enough about films and whatnot: comics! Yeah!
“First realized as an animated short film by Run in 2002, ‘Mutafukaz: Operation Blackhead’ established a world that grew into an entire universe of interrelated characters and conspiracies,” said Magnetic Press Founder and Publisher Mike Kennedy via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “The ideas grew beyond the scope of that 7-minute short, and he had no choice but to turn that massive vision into a sprawling 5-volume graphic novel series that set new heights for the medium, capturing the imagination of a hungry audience in the process.”
The five-volume collection (three are available today) comes hot on the heels of a Kickstarter campaign for an omnibus. The new hardcovers will be 8.5″ x 11″ and cost $24.99 each. More info — and a preview of the first volume — below.
