Last year, artist M.D. “Doc” Bright — known for his work on Armor Wars, Quantum & Woody and others — passed away at age 68. And now his final work, with writer Larry Hama, The Center Holds will get released by BOOM! Studios next year.
In the oversized first issue, per PR from the publisher, “A new superhero universe is born!” Specifically, the central idea here is that with superheroes just part of daily life, they’re required to join a union, or face serious fines for any damage from battles.
“Enter the Superheroes’ Union: A team-up of genius Scyber, psychic Lakshmi, the mysterious Keeper, and child prodigy Nekkotron, among others, as they battle villains and bureaucracy alike. And though the delicate balance of mitigating damage while saving lives is already tough enough, they’ve got their own worries with a constant stream of villains rising up to challenge them.”
In honor of Bright, BOOM! Studios and Hama are donating 2% of the sales of the book to The Hero Initiative. The Center Holds #1 hits stores on February 11, 2026, with covers by M.D. “Doc” Bright, Joe Quinones, Khary Randolph, and Chuck Patton.
