One of the biggest ongoing stories in entertainment is who will buy Warner Bros. The storied entertainment studio looks to be up for sale, and the most likely prospect for buying it is Paramount, owned itself by the company Skydance. While there are a lot of open questions about this potential deal, the biggest one is: if Paramount buys Warner Bros, will DC Comics add Landman to DC K.O.: Boss Battle?
This might require a little explanation. On the DC side, the comic book publisher is running a massive crossover titled DC K.O., which finds heroes and villains competing to become King Omega, the being powerful enough to challenge arch-baddie Darkseid. Back at New York Comic Con, at the Jim Lee & Friends panel, it was announced there will be a one-shot where the DC characters fight on “bonus levels” against other characters. That will take the form of February’s one-shot DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1, which finds TBA DC characters battling the comic book version of Homelander, Vampirella, Red Sonja, Mortal Kombat‘s Sub-Zero, Annabelle from the Conjuring movies, and even Sam Strong, the serial killer bear from IDW’s Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees. Pretty wild!
On the other side of the coin, though, if the Paramount/Warner Bros. sale goes through, and the WB owned DC now has access to the stable of Paramount characters, is it too late to add other challengers, like the character Landman from the show Landman? Now, I’ve never seen this series, but I believe Billy Bob Thornton plays a superhero named Landman on it, who likely has the power of land, or was bitten by land, or something like that. Regardless, it’s a popular series on Paramount+, and presumably Landstans would be stoked to see Landman battle Swamp Thing or something.
In fact, there are a ton of iconic characters from Paramount+ that could be added last second to Boss Battle: the animal-powered Lioness (Nicole Kidman); the Mayor of Kingstown (Jeremy Renner, and I bet you could sneak some fun Hawkeye jokes in there), who probably doesn’t have mayor powers but who knows; and of course Yellowstone (Kevin Costner), who gets his powers from a yellow stone. On the latter, I cannot wait to see Yellowstone take on Green Lantern, that would be a good one. [For non-comic book fans, Green Lantern’s weakness is the color yellow.]
So will writer Jeremy Adams be able to get this stuff in under the wire? Obviously that depends on the Paramount/Warner Bros. deal, which would be a devastating blow for the entertainment industry and likely lead to thousands of people losing their jobs at a time when the economy is being absolutely wrecked and thousands of other people are without jobs. But on the flip side? Think about if Tulsa King (Sylvester Stallone) wins it all and becomes King Omega! Fun!!!!!!!!
